"Keep It Real" was the second single released from MC Ren's third album, The Villain in Black (1996). Three versions of the song were released, the album version, which was produced by Dr. Jam, and the Villain Remix, which was the single version that was produced by MC Ren himself and the Smoke One Remix, which was exclusive to the single release. "Keep It Real" peaked at 43 on the Hot Rap Singles.
